2024 Medicare plans in Minnesota

Original Medicare is essential health insurance provided by the U.S. government for people who are 65 and older, or people younger than 65 who have certain conditions. Medicare helps pay for things like surgeries, some doctor visits and stays in the hospital.

You can enroll in Original Medicare through the Social Security Administration (SSA). But Original Medicare doesn’t cover everything. To receive other important medical benefits, like hearing and eye exams or prescription drug coverage, you can enroll in a private Medicare plan that covers more of what Original Medicare doesn’t.

If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, prescription drug coverage (Medicare Part D) is typically included.

However, Original Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans don’t include Part D coverage – if you enroll in one of those plans, you’ll also need to enroll in a standalone Part D plan if you want coverage for prescriptions.

When you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, it’ll likely have a custom network of doctors, specialists and other providers you can see. It’s important to see providers that are in network – if you get care from an out-of-network provider, you’ll likely pay more.
