Amery, Wisc. – More than a thousand miles from the eye of Hurricane Harvey, Amery Hospital & Clinic staff pitched in to lend a hand.

Employees filled boxes with school supplies for students at a Houston elementary school after hearing about a third grade teacher with a special Amery connection.

They packaged up three boxes of school supplies for the third grade students of Bailey Walz – a former Amery student who is now teaching at an elementary school in Houston. She is the daughter of Bonnie Karo, former Amery Hospital & Clinic employee.

Hospital staff also reached out to the school in Amery, where third graders wrote notes of encouragement to the Texas students. They were included in the shipment of supplies and the two teachers plan to continue communication between their third grade classes.

“Bailey sent me a very heartfelt thank you after receiving our boxes of supplies for her classroom,” said Sandi Reed, Vice President of Ambulatory Services at Amery Hospital & Clinic. “She said that her kids could not believe that people from Wisconsin cared that much about kids from Texas.”
