Amery Hospital & Clinic Announces PowerUp for Kids Week

Amery, Wisc. — May 7 kicked off PowerUp for Kids Week and Amery was off and running with a Family 2K, the first of many events throughout the St. Croix Valley! PowerUp for Kids Week is sponsored by PowerUp, a community-wide initiative to make our communities a place where it’s easy, fun and popular for kids and families to eat well and be active. PowerUp for Kids Week is a chance for our communities to come together to do what’s best for kids so that they grow up healthy and strong.

Amery showed how to PowerUp!

Amery started off the week of activities on Saturday May 7 with the PowerUp Family 2K Run/Walk on the Stower Seven Lakes State Trail. Over 120 runners and walkers of all ages participated. Chomp, everyone’s favorite carrot super-hero, led the group in warm up activities prior to the race and helped energize everyone at the starting line. All youth participants received PowerUp medals featuring Chomp upon completion of the run/walk.

Immediately following the 2K was Chomp’s birthday party at the Amery Public Library. Many of his friends followed him there from the race and cooled down with fresh fruit cups and an assortment of activities, including PowerUp Plinko, a scavenger hunt, and a “guess how many carrots are in the jar” contest.  Chomp’s last stop on Saturday was at Dick’s Fresh Market where he greeted shoppers, handed out baby carrots, and encouraged youth to complete the PowerUp Food Shopping Scavenger Hunt. This fun and engaging scavenger hunt is available through May 14 and can be turned in to win a prize!

During PowerUp for Kids Week, fun, family activities are being held throughout the St. Croix Valley. Other events in Amery include a special Kids Dance Open Gym on Friday May 13 from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. at Lien Elementary gymnasium and a PowerUp Kids Cooking Class at on Saturday May 14 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Hungry Turtle Institute (registration required). Are you up for a community challenge?

In addition to all of the fun activities during PowerUp for Kids Week, we’re inviting you, your family and friends to take the Try for 5 Community Challenge. This is a one-week challenge that encourages everyone to track the number of fruits and veggies they eat. The goal is to try for five or more. Visit and download the free tracker then report your tracking online, win a prize and get entered into a drawing for a bike. PowerUp will report which St. Croix Valley community tried the most fruits and veggies, so  help Amery win!

About PowerUp
PowerUp is a community-wide initiative to make our communities a place where it’s easy, fun and popular for kids to eat well and be active. It is a long-term commitment to create healthier communities in partnership with schools, businesses, health care, civic groups, families, kids and the entire community. Health experts predict that today’s kids won’t have as long or healthy lives as adults do, unless habits change so PowerUp is committed to working collaboratively to help kids in the Valley to be healthy today and reach their full potential in life!  PowerUp is supported by Lakeview Health Foundation and HealthPartners, in partnership with Lakeview Hospital, Stillwater Medical Group, Amery Hospital & Clinic, Hudson Hospital & Clinic and Westfields Hospital & Clinic.
