| Laboratory
 | The Laboratory is responsible for all test results for the Medical Center. The testing we perform covers all areas of specialties, chemistry, immuno-chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, and microbiology. While most testing is performed on site by our technicians and technologists, some specialized testing is referred to outside laboratories. The department is overseen by Pathologist, David Cartwright, M.D., who provides us with an array of pathological services.
ARMC Laboratory Mission, Vision, and Goals...
Mission: ARMC Laboratory is committed to providing accurate results and quality service, striving to meet the needs of our customers in an efficient and timely manner.
Purpose: The ARMC Laboratory exists to provide a key component of healthcare information necessary to evaluate and effectively serve our customers. We are a vital part of a healthcare team that works inter-dependently with other departments within our organization.
Guiding Principles:
- We as individuals and as a department will maintain a high standard of professionalism and work ethic.
- We will treat all customers and co-workers with dignity and respect while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- We will work cooperatively with other departments and healthcare professions within ARMC.
- We will communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals when patient care may be adversely impacted. (ie: critical results, testing delays, and when additional information is needed)
- We will work within a system of Quality Improvement, continually examining ways to perform our functions within ARMC more effectively and efficiently
Vision: ARMC Laboratory strives to become a department that consistently meets and exceeds expectations. We also desire to expand and improve our services for all of our customers so that we will become the laboratory of choice for outpatients and industrial accounts.
Direct Access Testing is also a part of the Laboratory Services ARMC offers. Direct Access Testing is known by a variety of names such as direct- to-consumer and patient-directed testing. This type of laboratory testing is characterized by individuals choosing which tests they would like from a limited menu, and paying up-front for the cost. Insurance does not typically cover this type of testing, so insurance will not be billed. Tests are ordered without any physician consultation and the consumer/patient is responsible for any follow-up with their clinician.
Accreditation The Medical Center Laboratory continues to be accredited through the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, JCAHO. The Joint Commission has an award-winning patient safety program, called Speak Up, which was developed to help patients take charge of their health care.
