HealthPartners joins national campaign to help end rising prescription drug prices

September 16, 2016

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — HealthPartners has joined the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing. The goal of the campaign: put an end to rising drug prices. To do this, the campaign is asking drug companies for:

  • Transparency. Report what it costs to make a medication.
  • Competition. Make generic drugs more available.
  • Value. Show that new drugs are better than medications already available.

“Medications help people live longer, better lives, and we want everyone to benefit from them,” said Mary Brainerd, HealthPartners President and CEO. “But that can’t happen if people can’t afford them. And today, rising drug prices are the main cause of rising health care costs. This can’t continue. This campaign is about creating a prescription drug market so that it benefits all stakeholders. As an organization serving millions of patients and health plan members, we are eager to strengthen our partnerships with other groups to achieve this goal.”

The campaign’s diverse membership includes hospitals, health plans and consumers. It also includes groups like AARP, Walmart, Kaiser Permanente and the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP). HealthPartners is an ACHP member. Learn more about HealthPartners advocacy platform.
