Wound Healing Center is at the forefront with the latest therapies and treatments

Healthcare leader National Healing Corporation is marking its 15th year assisting hospitals across the country in establishing quality wound healing programs such as the one at the Wound Healing Center in Amery.

"In 1996 when I co-founded the company, it was clear that national trends toward an aging population and increased incidences of diabetes, obesity and vascular disease would lead to an epidemic of chronic wounds that would be hindered in healing by these conditions," said National Healing CEO James E. Patrick. "National Healing centers are ensuring their communities are ready to meet the need for leading-edge wound care with specially trained physicians, state-of-the-art equipment and access to clinical trials and the latest treatments."

An estimated $25 billion is spent annually on chronic wounds which affect more than 6.5 million patients in the U.S. In 2010, National Healing managed centers treated more than 60,000 wound care patients and more than 4,035 patients were treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

The Wound Healing Center had 1832 patient visits last year. Patients likely to seek treatment are those suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds. The center offers highly specialized treatments including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.

The Wound Healing Center follows a proprietary, cost-effective Wound Healing Clinical Pathway® that evaluates the patient's responsiveness to treatment at every step before proceeding to a wide variety of care options.

National Healing has forged an academic partnership with The Ohio State University making National Healing centers a hub for wound sciences. The Wound Healing Center reports on patient treatments and outcomes which, when combined with data from other centers nationwide, provide extensive metrics that can be used for research and to analyze treatment protocol outcomes.

When faced with an atypical wound, physicians at the Wound Healing Center may utilize the National Healing rapid wound pathology service to send a biopsy to experts at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in Florida who will employ advanced diagnostic techniques including histology, histochemistry and immunohistochemistry to reach a diagnosis.
