| "Blankets for Babies" campaign | | Brenda Johnson, CNM |
Greetings from the new ARMC Hospital and Clinic!
As of this writing, midwifery services have settled into the new surroundings and we’ve made it through most of the first winter in the new building! A definite benefit has been to have my own exam rooms where my educational materials are kept. This makes information much more available for clients while they are in the clinic. The OB portion of the practice has been quite busy. In the new OB department, waterbirth has been easier to set up, so we have done many waterbirths since the move. Each of the birthing suites is set up to be able to have the waterbirth tub used in the room. For anyone interested in inquiring about waterbirth, several of our providers offer this option, and the OB nurses are also a good source of information.
This year the 53rd annual ACNM (American College of Nurse-Midwives) convention will be held in Boston, MA. I plan to contribute again to the Blankets For Babies campaign by sending blankets and afghans made locally to the convention in Boston. If anyone would like to contribute blankets or afghans, please drop them off at Amery Regional Medical Center to my attention by mid-May. These blankets will be distributed to organizations in the Boston, MA area that will then distribute them to needy babies.

Another opportunity for donating to the welfare of babies is Beanies For Babies through ACNM. Newborn baby hats are sent to developing countries through ACNM’s Dept of Global Outreach. The web site www.midwife.org/global.cfm has information on the campaign along with both a knitting and crocheting pattern for those that may need it. This is a wonderful opportunity to help those tiniest among us for whom keeping the head warm after delivery is critical to their well-being.
Lest it be forgotten, remember that midwifery care always includes the care of non-pregnant women from girls entering puberty through the women in their post-menopausal years. This care makes up a significant portion of my clientele. I am available to care for a wide range of women’s healthcare needs. If there is a question about the scope of the practice, I may be reached at the ARMC clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and at the Luck Medical Clinic on Fridays. New clients are always welcome!
With warm regards as we enter our new spring season
